Answering Your Questions

  • How many sessions will my child need?
Every child responds to intervention differently and at a different rate. Most students make measureable gains in about three months, with two sessions per week. More sessions may be necessary to address the needs of your child, which will be discussed with you during the post-assessment consultation. To ensure that lessons are tailored to student need and changes to intervention can be made in a timely, responsive manner, I require a minimum of two sessions per week. This is necessary to implement an intervention that can be responsive and allow for repetition and review, necessary components of the Structured Literacy approach.
  • What assessments are administered?
I administer varying assessments depending on the age of your child. The areas in which I assess are: - Phonological awareness - Phonemic awareness - Spelling - Sentence comprehension and fluency - Reading accuracy, rate and comprehension - Word reading fluency
  • Can you work with my child's teacher?
Absolutely! I work in tandem with teachers often, whether it be communicating about progress and areas of need, or if students need the extra support with accountability through a rewards chart that follows them from the classroom to sessions with me. As with any educator, anything you discuss with me is confidential. If you would like for me to work with your child's teacher, then please let me know and we can make the arrangements.
  • How will I know if my child is progressing?
I typically communicate with parents on a weekly basis. If you would like more or less communication, then please just let me know! My aim is to have you be able to support your child's reading growth, so when we have our initial consultations I will ask how much communication you would like from me.
  • Can you do in-person reading intervention?
As of right now Sara is a fully virtual interventionist. I know this can sound tiresome due to how much screen time students are already facing. My lessons are designed to be fun, engaging and meaningful. The added layer of excitement at the idea of having 1:1 teacher time is often enough to motivate even the most weary computer-based learners. Since adding Hannah to the company, she is sometimes able to offer in-person sessions on a case by case basis. Please contact us for more information.
